The study of mawaris (Islamic inheritance law) constitutes an essential component of Islamic jurisprudence. However, it remains relatively unpopular among the public, particularly within Majelis Taklim (Islamic study groups) and Dayah (traditional Islamic boarding schools). One of the primary factors contributing to this condition is the widespread perception that the science of mawaris is difficult to comprehend because of the complexity of inheritance distribution and calculations in Islamic law. Nevertheless, developments in instructional methods suggest that the study of mawaris can be made more accessible through the application of the Syajarah al-Mīrāts method. This study aims to analyze the concept of Syajarah al-Mīrāts in the study of Islamic inheritance law and to examine its application in teaching mawaris within Islamic study groups and Islamic boarding schools in West Aceh. The study employed a qualitative approach, and the data were collected through observation and interviews involving teachers, managers of Islamic study groups, and Islamic boarding school students. The findings reveal that the use of Syajarah al-Mīrāts in Islamic inheritance law literature remains relatively limited and has not yet been widely adopted as a primary instructional method for explaining the inheritance law. Moreover, the application of this method in Majelis Taklim and Dayah in West Aceh is still limited and not widely recognized. However, the study identified two Majelis Taklim that actively and consistently implement the Syajarah al-Mīrāts method in teaching Islamic inheritance law. The method has proven effective in helping participants understand the relationships among heirs and the mechanisms of inheritance distribution in a more systematic and accessible manner. This study confirms that the Syajarah al-Mīrāts method possesses significant pedagogical and legal potential for advancing the teaching and learning of Islamic inheritance law within the community.
